Project Description

Essentials Food Assistance 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has evolved into health, socioeconomic and humanitarian crises of unprecedented scale and impact. To break the transmission by restricting movement and contact, the Government imposed a Movement Control Order (MCO) starting 18 March and extended to 12 May 2020. The MCO imposed stay-at-home orders, banned outdoor activities including interstate travel and shut down all businesses except a few designated essential services and the natural resource sectors.

On the economic front, the lockdown is turning into an economic knockout. The economy is nose-diving with intensifying negative impacts on jobs, incomes and livelihoods, disrupting supply chains and upending businesses, and exacerbating inequalities, poverty and hardships especially among the most vulnerable.

In May, TSMCG Humanitarian Relief Team in collaboration with Persatuan Pengilang & Industri Perkhidmatan Bumiputera Malaysia(PPIPBM) took the initiative in assisting the affected people with the basic food supplies. This exercise has started in May until August 2021, TSMCG has released the total of 11,223 boxes to multiple locations in the Klang Valley area, Johor, Perak and Terengganu and RM10,000 to Zoo Negara.
